Frequently Asked Questions
Question 1 : What is the NEW BREED TITAN'S AMERICAN CANE CORSO ?

Answer : It is the the development of a specific bloodline (strain of dogs) within the Cane Corso breed that exemplifies the traits of the traditional guardian Cane Corso.

Question 2 : Is the Cane Corso the right dog for me?

The Traditional Cane Corso is ranked as one of the top natural guardian dogs on the planet! In order to determine if the this is the right breed for you , I will do my best to describe this breed’s strengths as well as weaknesses in the best way I can so that you may make this decision for yourself.

To analyze this breed’s strengths I think its best to start with its personality. The traditional Cane Corso is a highly intelligent dog that is very responsive to training. It loves being part of a family (high pack drive). It also has a very high protection/defense drive (the motivation to protect itself, pack, or property). When these temperament traits are combined with this dog’s very capable and intimidating large structure you can see why the Italians also refer to this dog as the Body guard…..O.K. so the next question you are going to ask is, “How does the Cane Corso stack up against other attack/protection breeds and how are they different?” Great question! …. In most other protection breeds, like the working German Shepard for example, they have a different source of motivation (set of temperament traits) that cause them to attack or defend. The working German Shepard or similar breeds have a very high prey drive and agitation level (he is easily agitated). When these temperament traits are stimulated the dog attacks. The higher these drives , the better working ability he is said to have. This can be a very effective tool for crowd control, taking down a fleeing perpetrator etc.. But all of this does have a downside. These types of dogs do not typically do well in a family environment, as the sudden movement of a small child darting in front of him etc. may trigger his attack response. Even the most trained handler must be on guard when a true working Shepard is in a home environment.
So in a home environment the Traditional Cane Corso has a definite advantage as a fearless man stopper , because its motivation to protect comes from a different set of temperament traits: it comes from its high Defense/protection and high pack drives. This allows him to be very stable and thrive in a family environment. The Traditional Cane Corso is also highly intelligent which allows him to constantly analyze the intentions of people, animals etc., for the possibility of a threat to his property or family. So choosing the best breed for you is simply a matter of choosing the right tool for the job.
So you’re thinking great, how can I go wrong? But as with most things in life there is always a trade off. Although not bad, you still need to be aware of them and know how to correct for them in order to have the most well rounded or that “once in a lifetime” companion. Since the Traditional Cane Corso has such a high Protection and Pack drive it does not always feel comfortable in some new situations: it may become withdrawn or aggressive. Sometimes this breed really does not care for strangers at all. It has its immediate family and that is all it needs. It may tolerate strangers but it may be standoffish and judgmental of them. This should not be confused with a weakness in the dog’s ability or willingness to defend its family even with its life (in some cases) if needed. It helps to keep in mind that this dog was originally bred to be a dog of war and accompany and protect its soldier in hand to hand combat on the field of battle. The Romans did this by breeding for very high protection and pack drives within its dogs. They just didn’t feel the need to breed this dog to be a social butterfly, These traits do not occur in all Cane Corsi, but if it does, you will know where it comes from and how to correct for it.
O.k., So how do we correct these personality quirks (if there are any ) in the Traditional Cane Corso. First, early socialization is very important. Expose a new puppy to every type of environment that it may come across as an adult, when you think you’ve introduced him and allowed him to get used to everything…rinse and repeat!!!! After that, obedience training . Some people have the natural ability to assume the alpha role and have their dogs follow commands as part of their daily living environment others are not so lucky. In this case, your dog should receive obedience training. If plan “A” falls apart some people muzzle train their dogs and simply muzzle them if they are going to put the dog in a questionable situation. It is very important with any guardian breed to always be in control of your dog. Also remember the Cane Corso has a strong pack drive and its very important that you are the leader of the pack. Never let a puppy assume the role of a pack leader.
After you understand the personality of the traditional Cane Corso you will be able to fully appreciate the breed and all the great benefits it has to offer!!! This is truly an AWESOME BREED!!!

Question 3 : How do I purchase a puppy?

Answer : We use an e-mail list to notify interested parties when a litter is available. We will send out e-mails a few times throughout the pregnancy. These people are contacted first in order from our list when we start taking deposits ( which is usually shortly after birth). Only after the people on the “List” have been given an opportunity to secure a puppy will we start taking deposits from the general public. (our litters usually sell within the first 24hrs.) Asking to be put on the notification list does not place you under any obligation.

If you wish to be placed on the list send us a valid e-mail and phone #. We will contact you back, confirming you are on the mailing list.
When puppies arrive we update the website and face book weekly with down loadable pics or video’s so you can watch as the litter grows!
Also be sure to follow us on face book to stay up to date year round, I tend to post there a lot more often with more of the daily activities and general pics. Also on Instagram newbreedtitanscanecorso
